Fingle Woods is an 825 acre ancient woodland site located in the Teign Valley on the northern fringes of Dartmoor National Park in Devon. In 2013 the Woodland Trust and National Trust bought the woods in partnership. It’s the first venture of its kind between the two organisations and together we’ve set about gradually restoring the woods and returning them to their former glory.
The majority of the site is now plantation on ancient woodland, as the native broadleaf trees were replanted with conifers in the 1930s. Over the coming months and years we will therefore be restoring the ancient woodland for the benefit of wildlife and public access.
This blog will be telling the story of how we are getting on.
